Friday's Dose of Delight {No.15} Lavender & Uganda

It’s a three-day weekend and you know what that means? Well, if you are anything like me I bet you’re formulating a checklist of all the errands and projects you anticipate completing this weekend because like we always say—“if we only had more time!”  However, this weekend I’m going to do my best to follow the motto “it is what it is”.  After all, stressing about your to-do list isn’t the best way to celebrate the end of summer, now is it? But before I kick back I need to share this Friday’s Dose of Delight; a mini round-up of inspiration and fun finds that I discovered through out the week.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all; then Jenny from Hank + Hunt , a blog for all things party crafts comes along with this amazingly unique ice cream float! Who knew they sold lavender soda? I'll tell you who knew! Jenny knew. And she is sharing this simple but sweet recipe over at The Sweetest Occasion. I have to say I am definately intrigued.

I wholeheartedly support handmade items and when those items are created by the hands of women who have seen atrocities most of us will never endure in our lifetime; well, it just makes me want to support handmade even more! 31Bits, which is described as a socially minded business, was created by Kallie Dovel shortly after she returned from her travels in Uganda.  She was so inspired by the women she saw there and their paper bead making skills that she decided to return to East Africa with a group of friends and a business plan in hand.  That plan, quickly developed into 31 Bits, a biz in which they purchase jewelry on a monthly basis from the Uganda women, allowing them to earn an honest income and in return provide food and shelter for their families. Their necklaces and bracelets are both stylish and beautiful and can be purchased both online and in boutiques across the US. See for yourself here.

Hope everyone has a delightful Labor Day weekend!

That 31 bits sounds awesome! I'm going to have to check that one out. Enjoy your weekend! Man is already booked - but booked with mostly fun things like watermelon festivals, football games and cookouts. :)
