The Crazy Things People Google

There’s no denying it, people search the darnest things on the Internet. Those of you who are fellow bloggers know what I’m talking about!  Sometimes when I see some of the search terms people used that led them to my blog I literally laugh out loud. Other times I have considered never leaving my house again {there are some deeply disturbed people out there!} And finally, on some occasions, I take action in reponse to some of the things people search.  Like the other day, my Google Analytics showed that someone had landed on my blog by searching the following term “why did my kids turn out so sorry?”  I immediately contacted my parent’s Internet provider and asked that they cut their service.

Some day, I will have to post all the funny search terms that have landed up in my Google Analytics. In the mean time I’ve been keeping a list of the hilarious terms that have popped up when I start typing in the Google search box and wanted to share a few with you.  Mind you, I’m doing basic searches like “ Why can’t I print in white?” when these hilarious terms pop up.  Of course, commentary by yours truly.

The Things People Search

Why can’t I own a Canadian? Cmon eh hoser! Y'know owning people is against the law, unless, of course its David Beckman, eh, and it’s me owning him and ummmm….yeah, we’ll leave it at that, EH??

Why don’t we eat our children? I’m pretty sure it’s because they’re useless carbs.

If you give a mouse a cookie what happens? Been there, done that.  They totally get a sugar high and then they crash at the nearest cheese motel.

Why did I get married? Honey… that you?

My family was kidnapped by ninjas!  Hurry! Call Nancy Grace. No seriously, I'm not going to knock this one because kidnappings, especially by ninjas, is a very senstive subject matter. Nevermind the fact that I'm pretty sure ninjas don't exist anymore. Who I am to judge, right? Plus, at one time in college my life I thought Paul Bunyan was a real person. Imagine that.........giant lumberjacks and blue oxen indeed never existed. Phew! It took years of therapy for me to be able to say that out loud.

Oh, how I love the Internet!

If you're a blogger what are some of the weirdest search terms you've come across that led people to your blog?

Friday's Dose of Delight {No.14}

Wow, this week really flew by! I’m not complaining though. I love me some weekends! It’s hard to believe that fall is right around the corner but in the mean time I’m going to try to absorb what’s left of summer.  Hope you enjoy this week’s Dose of Delight; a mini-round up of things that I’ve come across that delight or inspire me and hopefully enthuse you too! Although, I have to admit my first pick is definitely for selfish purposes, but I am definitely not the only gal who deals with this!

So I don’t think I mentioned that we booked a cruise for this fall down to Central America. Of course I realized I better get off my boot-tay and start working harder on this winter weight I’ve been carrying around.  That’s right, summer is practically over and I’m still talking about winter weight. Ummm…I’m pretty sure once your husband carries you over the threshold that you’re suddenly cursed with a sluggish metabolism.  You know that common joke “oh if I eat that, it’ll go straight to my thighs"? Well there is scientific evidence out there that this is indeed an actual fact for me. I eat a fry and I immediately gain five pounds. True story.  So last week I laced up my gym shoes and subjected myself to the worse, possible torture ever…….running. Ugh, I hate running.  I have to admit though I think I’m finally getting that runner’s high and I’ve been finding myself jonesing for it.  Proof that I’ve gone mad. In the mean time, I've been pinning away motivational pictures over on Pininterest. Looking at women you love to hate is always inspiring.........or depressing.

Gallary Wall

Want to play a game? Remove any art from the walls in my home and then count how many holes are in the wall! Ahhh, the secrets we sweep under the rug, or in this case behind the frames.  I’m horrible at hanging wall décor and a beautiful gallery of pictures like this photo above gives me sweaty palms just thinking about it. Thankfully, Pottery Barn has a slew of helpful tips and tricks on how to style your walls. I am a major lover of black and white pics so this one definitely caught my eye! The paint color is gorgeous too.

Hope everyone has a delightful weekend!

Delight in the Small Things

I have this obsession with needing to match all my home office supplies. The file folders have to coordinate with the pencils, which have to coordinate with the pencil holder, which has to coordinate with the notebook. You get the point.  I know I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been working on decorating my new office. Well, I found these pencils on Etsy and they were the perfect color for my little “studio” {remember using the word “studio” makes people take you seriously as an artist! At least, that’s what I tell myself}.

 Stephen, over at Wacodis, engraves these bad boys himself.  You can even customize the pencils with your choice of wording. Of course, I picked my signature sign off, “Yours Delightfully”.  They look great in my "studio"!

It's funny how something as small as pencils can totally brighten your day!

You can check out Stephen's store here.

So tell me what are you OCD about?

Birthday Giveaway & The Heartfelt Roots Behind Delightfully Noted

Disclaimer: This post may be a little long- winded. Even though it is uncanny of me I’m feeling a little emotional this evening. There's only two possible explanations for this; either the husband laced my food tonight or I have some serious damage to my hypothalamus from when I banged my head on a cabinet earlier. I've really contemplated sharing this story! Nonetheless, take advantage of it, I don’t get heartfelt like this very often.  Tomorrow I’m back to being an ice-cold broad.
I remember one year today jumping for joy and proclaiming to the hubby that I finally posted my first item on Etsy! I had spent the previous three months spending every waking hour trying to teach myself graphic design {Trust me, it wasn’t always lollipops and unicorns, I recall a certain night that I flipped out because I couldn’t figure out how to use the software to draw a circle!} and attempting to absorb every piece of information that is out there about running your own handmade biz. I remember the hubby saying “I don’t want you to be disheartened if you don’t have any sales right away.” In which I responded, “I won’t. I’m giving myself 6 months and if I don’t get a sale by then, I will reconsider this whole thing.” Eight days later I practically peed my pants when I woke up one morning to see that someone had actually purchased an item from my shop! Wow, someone likes my stuff and it isn’t my mom {or maybe it was and she was purchasing under some alias name???}.

{I took a picture when I was preparing my first order.  I was so excited I swear I must of took two hours cutting and packaging this one! }.

I had discovered Etsy two years prior to the birth of Delightfully Noted, when we were I was planning our wedding.  I’ve always enjoyed being creative and after designing all of our bridal stationery I kept thinking in the back of mind that it would be fun to open up my own on-line store.  But then all those doubts started creeping within----who would want to buy what I have offer? These excuses allowed me to keep this dream in the back of my mind. Fast forward a few years later and I found myself trying to make sense of a tragedy that had struck my family.  In the midst of dealing with the trauma that was unfolding around me I received the sad news that one of my best friends had unexpectedly passed away.  These grievous blows were finally what inspired me to take the leap of faith and open up Delightfully Noted. If misfortune has taught me one thing it is that life really can change in the blink of an eye. Failure won’t matter to you on your deathbed but regrets will.

{Little girl, Big dreams}
Ahem…. now for my Oscar speech {I’ll be expecting my little, naked, gold guy in the mail next week!}. To each and every one of my customers; I thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be in some small way a part of your lives; in particularly the happy moments!  Delightfully Noted has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done for myself. It has, in many ways, been my form of therapy and with out my customers, well, I would have had to turn to crack. I kid! I kid!  I also want to note how grateful I am for all my friends and family who have been incredibly supportive of this little endeavor of mine {You didn't laugh in my face when I shared my dreams! Now what you did behind my back is your business} A BIG, BIG THANKS to my hubby who does all the grocery shopping, and cleans the kitchen, and makes me dinner every night so that I can come home from my day job and jump right into finishing my orders. Hugs to him for only commenting every other week about me allowing our house to look like a bomb test site. And mad, mad props for the fact that he never loses his patience with me even though every morning I mumble profanities at him from underneath our comforter when he notes for the hundreth time that he has no clean socks.  Lastly,despite thinking I’m addicted to my computer, he still hasn’t forced me to seek treatment and for that I thank him!

I have to admit when you feel like you are always living your life in "crisis mode" you become a little jaded when people talk about what the future beholds.  For the past couple years, I've dreaded New Year's because I fear what kind of bad news another year will bring.  But I do have blessings and Delightfully Noted is one of them and in this instance, I can't wait to see what's in store for me and my little dream! So again, thank you to each and every one of you!

How to Reupholster Kitchen Chairs

Our kitchen table and stools were one of the first things we purchased when we bought our house a few years ago.  I’m not sure what the heck I was thinking when I picked out a table set that included chairs with white cushions! Apparently, my husband and I eat like three year olds cause those bad boys weren’t white for very long {Sorry, honey! I know I’m really the messy eater but I believe in marriage we should share everything; including taking the blame for my childlike manners}.  My attempts to remove the stains were useless so I decided to give a go at reupholstering the chairs myself with some fresh, colorful fabric. Now I actually completed this DIY project before the word “blog” even existed in my vocabulary so excuse the lack of pictures. However, Google is your friend and if you search “DIY reupholstering” you’re bound to find tons of tutorials with photos.

Screw Driver
Staple Gone
Staple Remover

Step 1: Take your screwdriver and remove the seat of the chair from its base.

Step 2: With your staple remover remove the fabric from the cushioned seat along with all the staples.
Step 3: Use the old fabric as a template to measure and cut your new fabric.
Step 4: Lay your new fabric pattern faced down and place the seat also face down on top of it.  Start pulling the fabric tightly over the seat cushion and staple it along the edge of the seat.

So you see that window seat behind the kitchen table? Yep, that’s a thorn in my side! The hubby can’t comprehend cushions and pillows in the kitchen.  He also didn't seem to like my other idea either; to place a life-like statue of me there.  So I’ve been pondering for three years {yes, three years!} how the heck to decorate a window seat when you don’t plan on using it as a window seat. Right now I just throw random crap there to fill the space.  Any ideas? I’d love to hear some suggestions!

DIY Fashion: Woven Ribbon Chain Bracelet

Delightfully Noted Birthday Giveaway Extravaganza is going on right now! Enter here for your chance at a $50 Kohls Gift Card and set a of Thank you cards from yours truly.

If you saw my DIY bangle post then you know how much I love the stacked bracelet look. Here’s another incredibly easy tutorial on how to customize your own jewelry. All you need is a 12 inch piece of ribbon and a chain bracelet, which can be found in the jewelry section of any craft store. Tie the ribbon to one end of your bracelet, slide on a bobby pin, and with the assistance of that pin start weaving the ribbon in and out of the chain loops. Once you reach the end of the chain, cut and tie another knot in the ribbon. Use a lighter to singe the ends of the ribbon to avoid any fraying. Voila! It’s that simple. Stack on wrist with bangles or other bracelets and now you have some stylish new arm candy!

Friday's Dose of Delight {No.13} Sneek Peek Missoni for Target & Homemade Gumdrops

Zip a dee doo dah! It’s Friday! One of my favorite days of the week for like 101 reasons; one of them being that Friday means it is time for another mini-roundup of things that have delighted or inspired me while perusing the world wide web. So instead of listening to me babble, let’s get on with the show!

Missoni Bicycle for Target

{Image via Huffington Post}

I want! I want! I want! Target {well an anonymous blogger, named “Marina”, who was hired by the retail chain} recently released some sneek peek pictures of their Missoni collection and let me tell you when this line hits the stores in September there’s going to be a lot of ladies getting their shoppen on! There’s apparently over 400 pieces in this collaboration between Target and Margherita Missoni  and so far what has been leaked is pure delightfulness. Check it out for yourself here.

PS. I want to know how to get a job like “Marina”?

Homemade Gumdrops

{Image from Bakerella}

Bakerella, which is this incredibly fun baking blog, recently shared a recipe on how to make homemade gumdrops.  I’ll be honest I’m not even sure if I am that smitten with the taste of gumdrops but the colors of the confectionary {yes, today I’m slipping in a big word} that she put together is just beautiful!  They are almost too pretty to eat. I’m thinking these would be great for Christmas if you made them in holiday colors. Full recipe here.

Hope you all have a delightful weekend!

Next week is my shop, Delightfully Noted's, 1st birthday! Giveaway coming your way!!  So be here or be square {or just "winner-less"}

The Goofy Things Couples Talk About

I’m pretty sure if you were a fly on the wall in my home you would seriously think about having me committed.  My hubby and I have some of the silliest conversations ever. Do you and your significant other do this too?

Case in point; this evening we were making fun of discussing how I accidentally trimmed the sides of the temporary paper blinds too short on the glass door in our bedroom that leads to the back yard {about a month ago we had a new fully glass door replaced and yes, I still have not found custom blinds for the door yet! So in the mean time we’ve been using those paper blinds. Don’t judge.} So the discussion started off on how my bad trimming job allows people to peek in through the glass door, which eventually led to us discussing my nightmares.

{Image via Jung tumblr| Where I may find myself if I keep sleepwalking!}

So let me back up a bit…..yes, a few years ago, I started experiencing extremely violent nightmares. These dreams cause me to punch, push, kick {poor lamp}, yell out blood curdling screams and at times I will get up and run to doors frantically looking for ways to escape.  One night the hubby even woke up to see me trying to write something on the wall with my finger. Silence. Silence. Silence.  You’re ready to call the mental ward aren’t you? Trust me, I creep myself out. Anyways, our conversation went a little like this:

Me: I’m glad I’m not sleeping on your side of the bed because if there was a serial killer in our backyard he can totally get a better view of you.  I already have the creepy, male shadowy figure who stands over me every night {one of my reoccurring dreams}.  And yet, you still never manage to catch him!
Hubby: That’s because he doesn’t exist.

Me: He does. He wears all black except for that one night when he came dressed like a caveman.

Hubby: Exactly, cavemen have been extinct for thousands of years. He doesn’t exist.

Me: Well, he did show up dressed like one of those caveman-Viking dudes like from the Capital One commercials; but like a “serial killer looking” caveman type of Viking.
Hubby: Why the hell would a serial killer come dressed up like a caveman?

Me: I don’t know! Why the hell do serial killers dress up like clowns then?
Hubby: That’s to lure children.  I don’t think a caveman outfit is going to lure anyone.

Me: You don’t think a serial killer would don a caveman outfit??!!  Think about the headlines……”Woman Bludgeoned to Death by Man Dressed As a Caveman”.  Imagine the panic that caveman outfit would cause!

And that my friend is how to get into a proper debate about the dos and don’ts regarding wardrobe decisions made by serial killers. Ahhh….to be a fly on the wall.

What are some of the silliest/strangest conversations you’ve ever had with your hubby or SO?

Everything is Peaches and Cream

Canning Peaches Watercolor from Amber Alexander| Peach Parasol via Padgett Hoke Blogspot|Cocktail Parasols via Ritzy Bee|Peach & Teal Door via

Did you know August is National Peach month? Probably not, because the peach is  like the apple’s red-headed step child {by the way I think that phrase should be revised to something like “three-headed stepchild. I’m just saying. A three-headed stepchild seems much more cantankerous than a red-headed one}. It seriously seems like a pretty neglected fruit, unless I suppose you live in the south. My elementry geography teacher claimed you Georgians love your peaches. Anyways, today I am sharing all things peaches in celebration of this fruit! Random fact: Did you know that there was a machine developed to rub off some of the fuzz from peaches? Since then sales have shot up. True story.See people…..stick around I’ll teach you all kinds of things. Now go eat a peach!

{Free Printables} Seed Packet Template Teacher's Gift

It’s back to school time! I know a lot of you like to make little gifts for your child’s teachers so today I am sharing a free printable with you; seed packets!
 “Teachers plant the seeds of
knowledge that grow forever”.

Here’s What You’ll Need
Plain White Paper
Glue Stick
Packet of Seeds
Craft Punch (scalloped or circle)
Twine or Ribbon
Small hole Punch
Sheet of Coordinating Colored Cardstock or Scrap Paper

Download seed packet here. Print and cut out template.

Fold and glue your packet together starting with the short side first, then fold up the bottom tab, then the long side tab. Leave the top of the packet open for now.  Fill packet with seeds. Now if you’d like to add a gift tag take your craft puncher and colored cardstock and punch out your tag.  Punch a small hole in both the corner of your tag and in the top tab of your packet.  In order to avoid a seed spill I wouldn’t recommend punching a hole anywhere else! Adhere your gift tag with twine or ribbon.  Now fold and glue down the top tab.

Aren’t these fun? This is a super simple way to show your gratitude for those who teach. The packets would also be cute to use as gift cardholders. Please let me know if you come up with any other way to use them!

PS. You can thank me later by dogsitting.

PPS. One of my dogs has diarrhea. My dogs are really sweet and not needy by any means.

How To: Winged Eyeliner a la Taylor Swift

Hello. My name is Melissa and I’m addicted to Taylor Swift. I saw her in concert last week from the front row and I fell even deeper in love with this girl when I saw how flawless she was in person. Taylor pulls off the retro red lip and winged eyeliner combo perfectly, and therefore, is my inspiration for this month’s blog post.

Winged eyeliner is a great way to transform your daytime makeup into a sultry, more dramatic evening look. It can be paired with neutral, barely there colors (as seen on Angelina Jolie).

{Image via CHOBEAUTY}

Or you can take it up a notch with bright eye shadow and a
daring lipstick a la Taylor Swift.
{Image via}

However you choose to rock the winged liner look, you must first conquer the some times tricky task of creating a smooth, symmetrical line. For the novice makeup junkie, I love to suggest using a black felt tip pen liner (like MAC’s Rapidblack Penultimate Liner, $17.50, The pen virtually does the work for you. For those a little more skilled in the liner department, try pairing gel eyeliner (like MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrack, $15.00) and a small angled eyeliner brush (like MAC’s #266 Brush). To apply this easy-to use liner, I take my left hand and pull the lid taut. Then I use my right hand (this will be reversed if you’re left-handed) to draw the line starting about halfway across my lid, or right above the pupil, to the outer corner. You can extend the liner slightly past the outer corner for a more dramatic look.

{Image via}

For extra pop, you can connect the line all the way to the inner corner of the eye, but for a more subtle finish just lining the outer half will do the trick. I tell my clients to pretend they are drawing on the lashes, instead of above the lash line. This trick will help you get as close to the lashes as possible. Using liner on the bottom lashline is totally up to you, depending on how dramatic you would like the end result to be. However, I do NOT recommend using liquid liner on the lower lashes. It’s a little too "Tammy Faye-ish" and its hard to create a natural finish. Finish the look with several coats of black mascara, and for the adventurous, a pair of fake lashes! And there you have it, the Taylor Swift signature look!

Friday's Dose of Delight {No. 12} Inspirational Wall Art & Keeping Little Girl's Smart

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve been a little bummed this week seeing all the “Back to School” sales and events.  Not that I don’t love a good sale I am just a little saddened by the fact that summer is winding down and I seriously feel like it hasn’t even started.  The good thing is it’s Friday and that means it is time for another week of Dose of Delight; a mini round-up of newly discovered and delightful things!

You are Loved Sign

If I had a penny for every bare wall in my house I’d be rich. Well, not really because there aren’t that many walls in my house to begin with but you get the point. I have ALOT of bare walls. I am always on the look out for that perfect piece of décor for my home and if it happens to be unique and handmade, well then all the better!  I am completely inspired by this “You are Loved” sign created by Laura over at the Corner House blog.  The wall decor is made out of wood fence boards and paint.  Here’s the only issue I see with this project;  knowing little ol’ indecisive me I’ll take FOREVER to figure out what saying I want to put on it.

How to Talk to Little Girls

There’s a great article called “How to Talk to Little Girls” by Lisa Bloom over at the Huffington Post. Lisa raises some good points on how our culture tends to use looks as an icebreaker when speaking with little girls.  Case in point; the other night we walked by my four-year-old neighbor’s lemonade stand and the first thing I noted to her was how cute her lemon adorned dress looked on her {I mean it was darling after all!} Perhaps, I should have complimented her entrepreneurship skills first. None the less, it’s a thought provoking article, so go check it out here!

Hope you have a delightful weekend!

The Makeup Junkie is back on Monday!
