If you are in the position where you want to upgrade your bedroom, it can be a bit tough considering how expensive a complete makeover can be. However, there are several very affordable options to give your bedroom a fresh breath of life.

Mix Textures

Firstly, take the step to mix textures in your bedroom. Whether it be flannelette fitted sheets, a wool blanket, textured throw cushions, or anything in between, different textures add depth, which adds more interest to the space.

You can extend this to other parts of the room, such as adding a fluffy rug, silky curtains, etc. You don’t have to change every texture, but adding new textures is an easy way to add a new dimension to the space.

Mix-and-Match Accent Pillows & Blankets

Blankets and accent pillows are usually quite affordable, and almost always cheaper than new linen. Because of this, you can give your bed an entirely new look without having to change the linen at all.

You can also purchase several options; white bed linen gives you a blank canvas to work with, and you can change the accent pillows and blankets to suit your current mood, season, holiday, etc.

Use Fabric Dye

Another very affordable way to get new linen, cushions, blankets, or even curtains, without having to buy new ones, is to use fabric dye. Using dye to change the color of white or neutral-toned material is such a simple way to create an entirely different space.

It is also very easy to use, as all you need to do is put the dye in the washing machine with the item you want to dye, and run a cycle. Let it dry outside, and in a few hours you have an entirely new item.

DIY Headboard

Headboards can be expensive, but many people don’t realize that, with a few basic tools and DIY skills, you can make your own. All you need is a nice slab of wood, some varnish, a little bit of sanding, and then a drill.

A basic wooden headboard will frame your bed brilliantly, add a new layer to the space, as well as add a touch of luxury and sophistication.

Wallpaper/Wall Decals

Wallpaper and wall decals are also far more affordable than many people realize, and adding some to your space takes no more than a little bit of wallpaper glue and an afternoon. Additionally, there are renter-friendly options that can be removed quite easily.

You can wallpaper the entire space, or just one wall, which will create a beautiful focal point and make the space feel bigger and more inviting.

Change Your Hardware

Another small and simple way to update your space is to change the hardware in the room. This means changing the door handles, drawer handles, etc. All of which can be changed for little to no money, especially if you go down the vintage or secondhand route.

Upgrade Existing Accessories

Another way to update your space is to upgrade what you currently have. This could mean getting new lampshades, painting frames of pictures in the room, or even just changing the curtain tie-backs you have.

Instead of buying new accessories, which can be costly, giving what you have a fresh lick of paint, a polish, etc, can easily be enough to give you a noticeable transformation.

Add Plants

Never underestimate the difference a few houseplants can make to your space. They add a breath of fresh air, both literally and figuratively, and can make even the darkest spaces feel light and airy.

Additionally, plants help to clean the air and keep it fresh, and clean air has been shown to help you sleep better and relax faster. Therefore, they aren’t only great to look at, but can leave you feeling better every morning.

Art

You are more than likely to have some beautiful photos stuck on a memory card somewhere, ot a few prints you picked up and never got around to framing. Art is a brilliant way to add some color and fun to a space.

Pick out a few stylish frames, which can cost next to nothing if you buy them secondhand, and create a mini gallery on one of your bedroom walls. As mentioned before, it is also very easy to paint or varnish wooden frames if the color doesn’t suit your taste.

Rearrange & Declutter

Finally, there is a way to upgrade your space without spending a single cent. There will be times when your bedroom needs nothing more than to be rearranged and have the clutter cleared out.

Take an afternoon to get rid of anything that doesn’t belong in the room, give it a complete clean, and then start moving things around. Put your bed somewhere else, move your chest of drawers, etc. You may find out that all your bedroom needed was a fresh, new layout.

In conclusion, there is no need to break the bank when it comes to giving your bedroom a new look, and spending a little bit of money, or even no money at all, will be all you need to create a luxury bedroom.
