I thought with tomorrow being Cinco de Mayo & all it would only be appropriate that I post something "south of the border-ish" in lieu of my usual Dose of Delight series.

When we were in Mexico last year I was completely infatuated with those colorful paper banners  strung all around town.  As in it took every ounce of control I had to contain myself from jumping up and ripping one of those bad boys down to take home as a souvenior.

Instead, relunctantly, I settled for just taking pictures of them.

Papel picado

These festive decorations are actually called "papel picado", which translates into “perforated paper”.

The elaborate designs are typically cut from tissue paper by hand using scissors or small chisels. They are commonly used in Mexico for special occassions such as Christmas &  quinceaneras.  Personally, I would love to have them strung over my back deck with a string of lights! Wouldn't that be gorgeous in the summer?

Espero que tengas un fin de semana maravilloso!

Pardon me if I just cussed at you. You can blame Google.

PS. I am so excited about the  positive response to the Blogiversary Bash Giveaways! If you haven't entered yet make sure to check them all out in the right upper sidebar.
