FARMHOUSE STYLE OFFICE AND CRAFT ROOM: THE HOARDER'S SERIES

February 19, 2023

3 mins read

If you don't mind, let me take a moment to reflect back on a list of a few house goals that didn't materialize in the year of 2015. Let's see....our family room still has golf ball sized holes in the drywall from the previous owners, the entryway ship lap isn't primed or painted yet, the basement didn't clean itself, our farmhouse table is still chair less (although that's about to change! Stay tuned), and we have yet to replace the killer boob lights.

And then there's the elephant in the room.

No seriously, there really may be an elephant in this room.

Heck, there may even be a homeless man in there for all I know.

The room I referring to is my craft room/office. Dun dunnnnnnn. (I'm not sure having to spell out the signature "Law and Order" sound had the effect as I was aiming for).

Point being, it's grim. Like I-won't-even-dare-share-a-picture-of-it-grim for risk that you all will report me to A & E.  Next thing you know I'll be starring on "Hoarders".

Is that show even around anymore? Asking for a friend.....
But it's time to face the music. It's time to serve that elephant in the room an eviction notice. So today I thought I'd share with you guys some ideas of the direction I'm looking to take this room. Perhaps you're also in the market for some office or craft room inspiration! As with every room makeover I do, I always like to start off with a little mood board (inspiration board). It's a great way to visually put your thoughts together before that first stroke of paint ever hits the wall!
And with out further ado, here's a taste of my dream office......

It's no secret I'm a huge fan of the farmhouse style. I find it calm and cozy; which is exactly what I need right now in a world of clutter!  The idea to use a farmhouse kitchen table as a desk was actually inspired by Liz of Love Grows Wild Believe it or not, I had almost the same exact table as her back in college and it's still sitting down in my basement!

Below are a few more offices/creative spaces I'm in love with. As you can see they have a few things in common...for starters, they're clean! Okay, no need to state the obvious, right? What I meant to say was they all use a significant amount of white (popular color within the farmhouse trend) and they each have a hint of green. Are you shocked?! It's not blue!

The problem with the craft room/office is that since the day we moved into this house this room has always served as dumping ground for a bunch of random stuff. Do you have a room like that?
So what have I done for the past year to resolve this problem? I shut the door on it. Yep, all day, every day for the past year I have chosen to keep that door closed to all outsiders.
It's like that forbidden creepy door from the horror movie that everyone is warned not to open.

Heck, I'm not even sure until this weekend that Little B even knew the room existed!

I'm happy to say I got a teeny, tiny start on the room this weekend. Little B's been on a nap strike , so after attempting to get him down for two hours on Sunday I cried "UNCLE!" and decided to put him to work! He was garbage boy and actually enjoyed it for a good twenty minutes....which is like an eternity in toddler time.

I'm looking forward to reviving this room and can't wait to share my progress with you all!

Stay tuned.....
