Let me preface this post by saying that I am well aware there is carpet in our dining room.
I feel the need to blurt that out ever since I came across a comment on Pinterest on our DIY farmhouse table. There was only like three words in the woman's comment, but it came across a little judgemental like "Ewww...ohmagawd, who the heck puts carpet in their dining room?"
Well, you know what lady, our home's previous owners, that's who!
We do have plans to put in hardwood floors in here...eventually. There's this thing called "life" that includes jobs, and a two year old, and budgets, and other house projects that keep knocking it down the priority list.
Today's post actually has nothing to do with our dining room carpet, it's actually about our new dining room chairs but in order to show you them I have to show you our carpet, and that my friends made me a little hesitant. Coincidently, I'm in the midst of refreshing things here on the blog and have had to spend a lot of time thinking about the Delightfully Noted "brand" and what I hope to accomplish and the people I hope to have hang out here.
DIY and decor are obviously my passions, we're blessed in that we could probably hire out a lot of our projects, but we actually enjoy doing some of these things ourselves and let's face it who doesn't like saving a few bucks here and there. Being a DIYer among being a mother, wife, daughter, friend, and employee, and let's face it, an all-around awesome human being means that in reality I can't just snap my fingers and POOF, our house is in mint- Martha-Stewart-condition just like that!
So the point of my rambling is that I don't want to be that blogger who just shares the beautiful "after" pictures of a room and tries to sell you some BS that making a house into a home is as easy or as quick as a half hour episode of Fixer Upper! I want to share the progress in between, even if it is ugly, or undesirable. There's a reason why "before" and "after" projects are so popular , because they're relatable, inspiring, and fun! I want to be relatable, inspiring, and fun....and that my friends is why I want to share with you my currently cursed carpeted dining room AND my new chairs.
I joked on Instagram that my hubby and I built this table 14 months ago and that it seriously took me 425 ridiculously long days to FINALLY decide on the rest of the dining room chairs (we've had the upholstered end ones for awhile) and that the moral of the story is people like me are not the type you want choosing the restaurant....unless you intend to starve to death. I'm not joking, I'm the most indecisive person ever, and it's especially more notable when it comes to picking out furniture and home decor. Top that with the fact that once I decide on something, it better be on sale, because otherwise I'll wait for it to go on sale and then in the meantime while I'm waiting, I'll start to waver on my decision and then the cycle repeats itself over and over again. It really is a sickness!
A few weeks ago I decided I wanted crossback bistro chairs for our dining room, I've been pondering this style of chairs for awhile now, and the good news is the moment I committed myself to them I noticed Restoration Hardware was running a fantastic sale on their Madeleine Side Chairs ( a matter of fact they're running the special again as we speak!) The chairs are regular $149 and I got them for $99 each. The only con was RH wasn't offering free shipping ( gah! I hate paying shipping costs!) and they also charge a handling fee. I'm obsessed with price comparison shopping, so I spent close to an hour checking out every other retailer who had similar chairs and even though I found some deals elsewhere, including free shipping, RH's total cost still came out as the least expensive.
I went with the Weathered Oak finish and couldn't be more happier with them. I was a little concerned in how they would look against the tone of the stain on the table (which photographs really red for some reason) , but they go together a lot better than I had anticipated (pictures don't really do these two justice).
I'm really happy with how this room is coming along, even if it's still carpeted.
Oh.....and that chandelier.....it's hanging by a ziplock tie.
I know somewhere out there a Pinterest troll just had a heart attack!
